This month, I took my 16 month old to the dentist for the first time.

Here’s what they told me at the dentist:
  • teeth 1His teeth are demineralizing, the front first and then in order of appearance.
  • I need to be wiping his teeth with a cloth every time I get him down to sleep.
  • Night nursing is causing sugary milk to rot his teeth.
  • I should night wean him (because I need the sleep and he should be sleeping through the night).
As you might imagine, this stimulated some big emotions in me.

I felt frustrated, anxious, sad, angry, confused, scared. Very scared.

It’s been a long road through the winter and this past year with all the illnesses, and I have learned much through all my research on health, humans….and teeth.

Here’s what I now know about teeth:

Tooth health is a first gauge for overall body health.

If the body is healthy there will not be tooth decay. That is not to say that people without cavities are healthy. This does not work in the reverse. This is where my frustration lies, because I thought we were relatively healthy compared to the average bear. However, it is also my relief because I can take responsibility for my health, and cure our teeth.

Tooth health is about way more than brushing.

There is a flow of fluid in the tooth that cleanses and keeps the tooth vibrant and alive. When that flow stagnates or reverses, the tooth shifts into decay and death.

Teeth remineralize naturally.

This is a natural process within a healthy tooth. When the ecology of our mouths are compromised, our bodies are unable to remineralize. The result is an unprotected tooth, open to and defenseless against decay.

There’s a lot more that I have learned, like the answer to this question: Are cavities contagious?!

So, to get all this info to you folks, who I’m sure will be interested to digest it for yourselves to cook up your own opinion and a game plan that works for your family, I’m going to be doing a series on my journey to heal my son’s teeth.

Are you with me? Are you curious? Want to join me and take a peek at all the info your dentist isn’t telling you?

I’ll be sharing ongoing updates on my journey to heal my family’s teeth and health naturally (my key resources and findings) in my weekly newsletter.
